About Dr. Andrews

I'm Dr. Shiquina Andrews, a Licensed Psychologist based in Houston, TX. You may be wondering what therapy with me would be like, so I wanted to give you an overview of my approach to therapy. I believe in the connection between our core beliefs and how we experience life. As such, my therapeutic style is rooted in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). However, I do use other modalities (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, etc.) as they “fit” for the person and their concerns. I believe in the importance and impact of intersectional identity (i.e., the interplay of our race/ethnicity, gender & sexual identities, religious/spiritual background, class, generation, etc.) on one’s life experiences, and thus take a multicultural approach to therapy. Finally, I believe therapy should be fun. Now, don't be fooled... We're gonna do work! But, I believe that growth can be a creative and joyful process. If you’re looking for a therapist that is empathetic yet honest, one who will give you the nudge you need, I’d love to set up a consultation so we can discuss your needs further.

Past Clinical Experiences

Much of my work has been helping people with various chronic health concerns cope better with their condition and/or make changes to improve their health. Some health-related populations and conditions that I’ve worked with in the past have included: primary care, cancer, chronic pain, hypertension, diabetes, bariatric/weight loss, HIV and other infectious diseases, substance misuse, and end-stage organ failure. I also have a special interest in working with women on sexual and reproductive health (i.e., positive sexuality, fertility issues, child loss).

I also have more generally worked with people on improving stress, reducing depression, or anxiety, addressing prior traumas, establishing healthy boundaries, being more assertive, increasing motivation for change, and increasing their general personal awareness and self-confidence.
